Yes... I Am Your Grandmother

It has been awhile since I have had the chance to step into the writing world and for that I truly am sorry. My life captured me for a time. Recently my kids released me for good behavior. I was serving time as a Grandmother. While it is a life time commitment, I have taken this moment to be with you.

If you would be so kind I would like to share with you a few fun thoughts on being a Grandmother and hopefully bring a smile to your face. If you are a Grandmother, you will relate quite nicely. If you are not, then maybe it will bring back a nice memory of your Grandmother. For those "young things" out there, this will give you some incite to the joys to come.

I will be honest...In the past when I heard people speak about how many grandchildren they had, I truly thought they must have rabbits running wild in that family. Now that I claim seven, I have since changed my way of thinking.

How does one grandma manage seven grandchildren? There are birthdays, holidays, and special times that need celebrating all year round! I kind of look at it this way...

As long as I have their whole names spelled correctly, written alongside their birthday and in order of their birth, I will be good to go! I honestly do not even have to know how to pronounce their names. They have renamed me several times so I think it is only fair I come up with my own name for those sweet faces that I can remember. Perhaps a number system would work.

My only grandson still calls me Meme, he is nine and in the fourth grade.

He did tell me recently I would now be called "Grandmother" in front of his peers. What the...Really? Grandmother? It sounds so OLD!

He is and will always be my little man and my heart!

If he wants to call me Grandmother then so be it...as long as he continues to call.

He did remind me when his little sister was born two days ago that he was holding out for a brother in the future. I told him I was sorry but that I did not think that was going to happen. He looked so sad. I then told him to shoot for a puppy!

Your welcome Mom and Dad!

Love,
Grandmother

I was blessed with two grand-babies this year. Both born within three months of each other, two precious, adorable, little girls. Ironically...I was not at the hospital with either one of them. For me this was a little disheartening. You see I have always been at the delivery with the other five. I was even asked to do the honors of cutting the umbilical cords.

One angel decided to make her entrance into the world a little bit early and I could not get there in time.

This last little bundle of joy, making number seven, had different flight plans.

My oldest daughter thought it best if I watch the other two children while she went to have the baby. She is very picky who she leaves the children with as she should be. She assured me she would be just fine alongside her hubby, who at times has been known to be a little squeamish. I have always felt it my duty to be there for him so that if he did faint, I could hold him up, or offer some comfortable cushioning should he fall my way.

She told me she would have piece of mind knowing the children were with me. Of course that made my heart melt and the fact that she trusts me so.

Needless to say...hubby was on his own.

Of course I understood, but was kind of sad that I would not be there too. I really knew there was no alternative motive for keeping me away. I did however remember the last time I went to the hospital, I may have been slightly over zealous, looking over my daughter for hours. When I say looking over her, I mean literally looking over her! I did jump back when she opened one eye and yelled BOO at me!

Nothing like getting BOO'd at to get ones blood a pumping!

I can not forget to do a shout out to my four other granddaughters! Per mother...the girls were having a delightful  conversation in the car the other day. It concerned me and I felt so special.

Maryanna asked her sister Isabella if Mommy was as old as a dinosaur. I am sure the question just warmed mommy's heart. It brought such a chuckle as I listened to the story unfold. However, the story did not end there nor how I had envisioned.

Suddenly something  turned horribly wrong!

Isabella said..."Of course not! But Grammie is!"

Oh those adorable pumpkins! It is true...I may be as old as a Dinosaur but in my defense, I am not as old as dirt!  That's my story and I am sticking to it.

Did you  notice my name change with these four Princesses? This set of grandchildren call me Grammie! Not Meme!

I have now learned to respond to just about any thing nowadays!
A mother becomes a true grandmother the day she stops noticing the terrible things her children do because she is so enchanted with the wonderful things her grandchildren do.
-- Lois Wyse
Lastly...My sweet little two and half year old granddaughter, little man's sister, stood by me as I cooked her breakfast.

"Meme, are you my grandmother?"

"Of course I am," I replied, "and you call me Meme."

She clasped her hands together and laughed out-loud in joy!

"Oh Wow!" She exclaimed happily.
Becoming a grandmother is wonderful. One moment you're just a mother. The next you are all-wise and prehistoric.

I so relate, Kimmie! I've 7 grandchildren, 2 step-grands, 12 great-grands (from age 20 to 3 & one coming in Nov.) and i step-great-grand, now 15. I have no problem with names because they're in my prayers every night, but birthdays - - - well, I still have my memory but the sheer numbers are challenging! There's nothing like being Granny Annie to these people. Hugs and thank you for this

Hello Kimmie. I am so happy that you found time to write. And what a great subject to write about. Only one boy, poor guy. He is going to hear all the stories and be the defender of mankind, or maybe just the men in mankind.

You can now look out over your kingdom of grandchildren and behold true love, joy and plenty of laughter.

Dear Kim, I read this post with a smile on my lips. Grandchildren are definitely a most precious source of happiness and joy. Each of them is unique and adorable. I see mine as rewards from heaven.

I jut love that reaction - "Wow! You are my grandmother!" When dreams and fantasies turns out to be reality....

I love seeing pictures of yours, looking forward to see them growing into adulthood :)

Kimmie, this is such a sweet post. I've not yet been blessed with grandchildren, but look forward to the event. It must be amazing to see the generations unfold right before your eyes. It sounds like being a grandma is a lot of fun.
