Wonder woman surely has the outward appearance of a strong individual with her sword and shield by her side. What I would give to feel like she looks, however... most of the time, I am on my knees praying for strength. I admit I am NO WONDER WOMAN! I am like many just trying to get through this life with some joy, love, and peace, which we all yearn for.
We are living in very uncertain times for sure. We not only have our concerns within our families, but our country is in such an up roar. Peace of mind seems to be a foreign concept and disgruntled souls prowl the earth waiting for whom they can devour in one bite!
We seldom feel as if we have any control over anything and truthfully...PERHAPS WE REALLY DO NOT!!
I do believe there is a way to have the makings of a Wonder Woman, but my way of thinking comes from a very different perspective than what the world would have us believe.
To be a Wonder Woman, we must wear The Full Armor of God daily!
"taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. And take THE HELMET OF SALVATION, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God."
Ephesians 6:17
In the Bible it says to take up the shield of faith, which can come against anything we are faced with. The helmet of Salvation protects our minds, and our fearful thoughts. We believe IN FAITH that God is our Salvation. The sword of the Spirit is the most powerful weapon on this earth!
I have stepped into fear many times in my life. I have not always taken the time to put on the full armor of God before encountering a battle. I have often found myself in situations where I am not covered and have felt naked and afraid. Would you ever step into a battle without being prepared in some way?
We sometimes step into fear!
Fear is like a booby trap, an unforeseen deep, dark, hole. Our first reaction is NOT to run home and put on our armor. Now if I had it with me, I may have been able to jump out of that hole like a jack rabbit. Sadly...in my human condition, I sit in that dirty, dark hole. Because of God's love and grace, he will shine a light into the hole, and remind me I have a Savior who will help me out of this predicament I have found myself in.
I am learning to pack my armor daily, so I am not unprepared for those deep holes or battles I may encounter.
Recently my mom was very sick and was hospitalized. I found myself in much fear. She has been the care giver for my dad since his stroke. I began to worry what I would do with two loved ones sick. I worried if I would be able to handle all that was before me. I worried over the future and how this would effect my personal life.
My first reaction! "Dear Lord help me please!"
I had been here before. While I prayed those words, I still fell into fear, and let my concerns rob me of sleep and joy for days! The fear was worn over my face like a mask I could not pull off no matter how hard I tried. I began to realize that within myself, I could not handle anything! It was time for me to bring in the BIG GUNS, which I had stored away in some part of my heart and mind.
I must get dressed!!!
Putting on the Shield of faith, The Helmet of Salvation, and the Sword of the Spirit, I was ready for battle!
My first plan of action was to leave all my fears at Jesus feet so I began to pray. I opened up my soul and began to pour out my heart to the Father. I told him everything and I confessed my human frailties. You see....we humans are so imperfect. We are not super humans no matter what the world would have you believe. We are nothing without Christ!
Most of us think we have everything figured out, but honestly we know nothing! Let one thing interfere in our "oh so planned out" lives and we are reduced to sniffling little children. We are prone to whine, cry, moan, and groan. While we can hide our face from the world, we cannot hide our inner hearts from God. He knows what we are made of.
We may ask...why doesn't God just do something? Why me? Why must every thing in this world be a battle?
Have you ever had a flat tire and you just sat there waiting for someone to come and fix it. NO! We changed it by doing an action. We either changed it ourselves or we called for help. We know our limitations. If we are given the tools....then shouldn't we take advantage of the jack and the spare in our trunk.
The full armor of God is at our disposal day and night. We then put it on...expecting our Father to hear us and take action. Indeed it is a step of faith! While sometimes our plans do not always turn out the way WE think they should go, we do have that "emergency equipment" for our use. We have smoke alarms in our house, we have insurance for those accidents, we have life insurance, and many other so called PROTECTORS for those unforeseen times.
BUT WHAT ABOUT OUR HEARTS?
Once we pray we should utilize the armor of faith that God will work it all out. One would hope that we will grow and become stronger thru adversity, but in our humanness, sometimes our world is torn apart by loss and we cannot just get up and shout for joy. It takes time and my friend its okay! Do not let anyone dictate to you what you must do. Trust the Lord for his timing! Maybe we will not find an answer for many years and sadly we may never know the reason behind what has happened.
Do you think a soldier who has gone thru a battle can dismiss what he has gone through on the battle field so easily? God knows this! We are not expected to be perfect, non feeling humans. We are allowed to feel what ever we feel. It does not mean we are defeated. The Lord gives us "helps" and walks with us and before us in those battles. The armor is a gift for us to use without any stipulations, well only one...BELIEF!
As Christians, we are given hope for each new day. That is why we are able to find joy among the rubble. We are just here for a time and how we deal with situations, dictates how we can continue to walk in this life. We can walk in defeat or we can pull up our boot straps and walk in courage with the Lords help.
Because we serve a living God, we can face tomorrow!
We must recognize that we do not have to be perfect and can admit we are scared. We can also tell our Father that we are scared. He loves us so much and will help us through what ever situation may come. It does not mean that the hurt will go away instantly, but we have assurance He is with us all the way.
What better friend than do we have in Jesus.
He gave his life for us. Jesus loved us so much that he died on an old rugged cross and carried all our sins upon his shoulders. He arose on the third day in victory, and now sits on His eternal throne! We can come to him anytime and anywhere!
The Armor of God makes me a Wonder Woman but I have a SUPER GOD who walks with me in my humanness. I am His and He is mine! What a love story!
