Good Morning!
I am posting a little early this week verses on Monday!
I do want to wish you all a Happy Valentine's Day!
Be sure to give that special loved one a big hug!
If you find yourself alone this Valentines...
There are many in the local nursing home or hospital
who would love a special visit from you!
It is amazing when we give out of our need,
How much better we feel!
Happy Valentine's Day!

Worry! A Culprit for Adding Years to Ones Life

This is not an easy post for me to write, as if I am honest; I have been known to worry a bit too much about many things. In fact worry has robbed me of sleep, peace, and joy many times in my life. I used to chalk it up to being a very sensitive person. I cannot help but worry about others, the present, and the future. It was not until I realized that it was more about control and unknowingly taken on the bad habit disguised as worry.

I was watching a movie with Tom Hanks recently where he played an American attorney, representing a Russian Spy. It was called Bridge of Spies.
Big thumbs up for movie goers!

In the movie, all the cards were stacked against this Russian Spy, but Tom Hanks believed every one
deserved a fair trial under our judicial system. The Russian man was unemotional most of the time which worried Tom Hanks, the attorney.

He would ask him..."Aren’t you worried?"

The Russian man would answer so calmly..."Would it help?"

Throughout the movie this was a common exchange of words. I could not help but giggle at their conversation...but deep inside I thought the Russian gentleman was so right. He gets it! Why worry...would it change anything?

In the Bible there is a verse that I have always ran to and held so dear when things seemed impossible to solve. It would bring me such peace. Throughout my life I have run to this passage more times than I can count, savoring the words, and attempting to apply them. Sometimes I would manage to get through the day without worrying and other times I would fall right back into the sinking feeling of dread. I chalk this up to my own lack of faith at that time. To stop being a worry wort is not always as simple as reading a scripture, and to apply it can be an even greater challenge.

It truly becomes an act of trust and faith in the Lord. Either I am going to believe what the scripture says and just do it! Or...I am going to continue to wallow in my own anxious, worrisome nature. I truly choose PEACE!

"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."

Philippians 4:6-7

Be Anxious for Nothing!

If I stand on my own and are anxious about my problems, I only add years to my life, which can cause me to have high blood pressure, depression, and other ailments. If I learn to take everything to God in prayer and leave it at his feet, maybe I can relieve some of those worries. I realize it does not take all the circumstances away in an instant, but it is an act of relieving myself of the burden I am carrying and placing it in God's hands.

Supplication is a wonderful part of praying for by doing so I am praying on the behalf of others. The prayer of supplication is generally a request for the person I may be praying for. When I take my thoughts off myself and pray for others, I find that my grumblings are not worth grumbling about. By praying for others, I have taken the focus off my own worries.

When the world seems to be falling apart all around me, I can still praise God for all the good that exists. Finding something that is good may take a little effort, especially when so many things seem dark. It may be as simple as knowing I took a breath this morning and was given one more day. Looking into the eyes of my grandchildren, knowing they hold the key to the future, may bring me hope. Think on good things that are true, noble, and right! We may have to step back from any negativity that our little eyes take in on a daily basis. Give our hearts and minds a break!

It is amazing how much negative buzz can affect us! We truly have no idea that it is penetrating into our souls and causing us to worry needlessly. I had to step back from Facebook recently as there was so much negativity and I could not seem to scroll past it fast enough. Our eyes are like cameras, taking quick shots, of everything we see. I realized that I was taking in all the emotional garbage of others.

Sometimes we have to fill ourselves with good and lovely thoughts and it is our job to do it! No one is responsible for making us feel better, it is up to us to fill our hearts with positive vibrations.

If we find ourselves being offended by others, I think we have given them way too much power over us. We have to find things that are worthy of praise and of good report. We must dwell on those things! It does not say to think on them for a second but to literally DWELL on them and practice this art of positive thinking.

This tells me...it is not a natural thing for us humans to do. We must exercise our thinking daily!

"Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you."

Philippians 4:8

So today I would like to encourage us "Worry Wort's" out there to learn to let it go. Be anxious about nothing, but in everything pray, as we seek God in all things.

Tom Hanks: "Don't you ever worry?"

Russian Spy: "Would it help?"

Indeed worrying is a toxic thing for the body, mind and soul. I learned long ago not to worry but to give my problems to God and leave it there. He surely has greater wisdom and power than I do so His solutions will be the right ones. The Bible truly is a manual for living a productive and godly life.
It has the answer to every issue we may encounter. There are love stories for the romantic, battles for the young boys and men who love such things, a manual for women to be perfect examples of wives and mothers. There is instruction for succor as in the verse you listed. When we follow these, we honor God and ourselves.
Thank you for the Valentine. Here is one for you and for our beloved Father.
John 17:3-5, "(KJV) And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do. And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was."

Kimi,

Excellent post. I'm admittedly not worry-proof however if isn't intentional and I try hard to not engage in it. I'd much rather Jesus handle what challenges I face and when worry tries to creep in, I remind myself of the same scripture you presented in this post. True to His Word, He always helps relieve my angst. :)

Hello Kimmie. What excellent advice. Of course I am one of the original 'Worry-warts' (were there 12, I don't remember)

You put forth a good argument, and the Russian Spy has it quite right. "Would it help?" the answer is always no.

You prove yourself over and over again. You spread positive energy everywhere you go.

Thanks for the mention of my latest book. You are very much appreciated.

Dear Kimmie,

Surely there's room for me in the original 12...now I shall worry until my invite comes...:)

Seriously a post I needed to read - the timing is eerily perfect.

Love and hugs, mar

Kimmie, I love this post! Worrying certainly doesn't solve the problem, but can create problems such as stress. Positive thoughts and seeking answers are the panacea to any situation that begs for resolution.

Tom Hanks and the Russian have it right.
