The Tens Unit and Relieving Pain

Ageing gracefully has always been my motto, but despite my best efforts and sometimes helpful natural remedies, I still suffer like most at my age with painful joints and muscles. I am sometimes reluctant to share, as I am not always sure if my so called "natural treatments" will have long lasting effects. However, today I would like to share my latest help mate in my journey with discomfort and pain.

Years ago I has severe back pain and to keep going in my nursing profession I used a Tens unit. A Tens unit is a "Trans-cutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation" type device. This sweet baby allows me to continue to work pain free or at least with minimal discomfort. The Tens unit helps to stimulate my body to produce higher levels of my own natural painkillers, called "Endorphin's".

A Tens unit is a small device that sends out small electrical charges to the affected area. It does not cure or eliminate the problem, but it does confuse the brain. It causes the electrical  pulses to block the pain to the brain, thus eliminating the feeling of pain.

For the last two years I have suffered with knee pain. It has been almost unbearable at times. I finally received shots in my knees and this did seem to help for a time. However, one of my knees was a bit stubborn and the pain returned with a vengeance. I was told I have Arthritis in my knees. After swallowing mounds of over the counter pain medications, a little light went off in my brain. Why could I not use the Tens unit on my knee. I googled it and found many had already been using the Tens unit and found much relief.

The Tens unit is easy to use. One applies the adhesive pads to the affected area. This little gem is not bulky and can be worn under your clothes. It has different settings and allows you to try different frequencies. For now this little charmer is my life saver and I have been able to move about during my day without much discomfort. Diet and exercise play a big role in managing Arthritis, but even with the best of efforts, Arthur, my endearing term for this disease, still does not like to play nice most days. The Tens unit allows me to move and walk without pain, thus keeping me mobile.

Please take time to read the art, icle below before trying out this device!
It is always a good idea to check with your physician before trying any treatment.

I have heard of these units. I am glad you are getting some relief. I know that sugar triggers arthritis flareups and causes inflammation all over the body. Be careful. Sugar is hidden in many, many foods.

Thank you Brenda for stopping by. Yes sugar is such a bad thing. My sweet tooth struggles to leave those treats alone but it is indeed a very bad culprit

Good to see you Mike. I pray this helps your brother. It can be very depressing living with pain and may give him some comfort.
Thank you

You can CURE pain with a TENS unit with appropriate treatment. The politics here is that the professional is forbidden to say this because he resides in the USA. You must learn about meridians and trigger points, also stretches. Also increasing magnesium levels can cure muscular pain.
