Years ago my husbands grandmother gave us a small Jade plant. It was a succulent, but I guess I never realized the many varieties. We were able to grow many Jade plants from that one plant.
It lived for many years. One day I came out to find it had died. I truly was sad, as this plant was a special reminder of Roy's grandmother. They truly are one of my favorite plants.
One of the most common succulent many know about is the Aloe Vera plant. Many people are aware of its healing properties and keep it around for medicinal purposes.
There are many different succulents but a few that may sound familiar are the Crown of Thorns, Hens-and-Chickens, and my personal favorite is the Jade Plant.
What Are Succulents?
Succulents are usually ornamental plants, and they are beautiful in nature, adding to any landscapers dream.
How to Care for Succulents
They need sunlight at least 4 to 6 hours a day. I do have to say our succulents do well on our porch, out of the direct sunlight as you will see in the video below. A natural light works great. We do have succulents that do well in the direct sun as well. Always drown your plant in water, do not mist them, as they will just want more and it effects their health and well being.
Make sure you check the soil for dryness. Here in in South Texas, I water once a week during the summer. In the winter I would water once every two weeks. Do not water directly on the leaves, but at the base of the plant.
