Today we wanted to do a review on Bentonite (Sodium Montmorillonite) Clay I bought recently. It basically is a natural, non metallic, clay mineral that has been used for centuries for healing. The clay derives from deposits of weathered volcanic ash.
It came to my attention about a recipe for a natural toothpaste which included this "food grade" clay. It was new to me so I began to do a little investigating. I found this type of clay to actually have many uses.
This clay was manufactured by a company called "The Natural Source". It is a little confusing as to which company actually manufactured this clay, but it may fall under a company out of Miami called "Perma Guard".
I did reach out to them via email in order to find out where the product is manufactured and the process in which it comes from. The company's logo on the package is "Fossil Power." I truly do not understand all the in's and out's of the manufacturing process, but to me it was important to find its source and their core beliefs.
However...this clay has great reviews and appears to be in the top contender when it comes to Bentonite Clay.

Before ordering, I did find out that all clay is NOT alike. The first thing we need to know is if it is food grade or not. I felt if it is food grade it would be okay to put on my skin and in my mouth of course.
The second concern was if it was truly organic. It states it is 100 percent pure. In the Buyers Guide on line, it has a 9.7 % rating.

I have periodontal disease and most toothpastes are harsh on my gums. After using this toothpowder for over two weeks, I can say I truly love it. My mouth feels much fresher and clean. I also love the benefit of whiter teeth.
Helpful Tips and Ideas
Never use a metal spoon when mixing, a plastic one is best. I store the tooth powder in a glass jar on the sink in my bathroom. I dip my toothbrush in the clay mixture and depending on the consistency it may be a bit runny. I believe I could have made mine a bit more thicker. If you should decide to make a tooth powder for a significant other, be sure you make a separate container. The color green is not so pleasing, and the texture is slightly different than regular toothpaste. Now that I have gotten used to it, I don't feel I will ever go back to regular paste again.
I recently used it as a face mask as well, and I have to say it was the best mask I ever used! I added a little Apple Cider Vinegar to the clay, then placed the leftover mixture in the refrigerator. After a few days, I used the clay once more and the consistency was still spot on. I left the clay on my face for 15 minutes, then rinsed the clay off. It came off very easily. My skin was very smooth. This clay also has a recipe for a DYI deordorant, but we have not tried that yet. The clay is suppose to detoxify, pull heavy metals, chemicals, and impurities from the body.
