My name is Kimmie Thompson and my husband is Roy....and together we are, Life By Grand Design.

Life By Grand Design is just two simple people sharing their ideas as they maneuver through life.
Roy is an Army Veteran and a retired correctional officer. He now enjoys a well-deserved retirement. I am also an Army veteran, a retired nurse, a published creative writer, and blogger.​
We both were raised in the military and spent most of our adult life associated with military life, traveling to many places stateside and overseas. Together we raised four beautiful children, who have now graced us with seven beautiful grandchildren. We have been married 27 years. 

I became a creative writer late in life. My pen name is Sunnie Day. I published my first children's book called "Sunnie and her Peeps." The inspiration came when I retired from nursing and became a backyard farmer, raising six chickens. These little chicks amazed me and before I knew it, I had named every one. Almost five years later I republished this same book with a wonderful publisher who truly saw my vision for this book. She brought my little book to life. It was renamed For the Love of Peeps.

I then published a few eBooks with the encouragement from some awesome online author friends, and to my utmost surprise, I now have three published books thanks to the wonderful work of Laurus Publishing.

​My book, When Delilah Smiles is my work of heart. I feel as if I birthed her very character into existence. I then published God's Playbook, which I co- authored with my brother Kevin Kruise. You may find this book under my real name Kimberly Kruise Thompson on Amazon as well.

​As any writer knows, we can let writing consume us and life can take a backseat to those around us. I took a couple years off to get my life in order and as of late that old pen to page has been calling my name. My husband and I decided since we are together pretty much 24/7 why not use some of my writing skills and start a blog together thus Life By Grand Design was born.
​Life is GRAND when you think about it, a true gift. Life is filled with joy, sadness, and many surprises. As life unfolds, we pray someone will be blessed along the way.

Recently I heard someone say to "start where you are!" Don't look at the grandeur of others. We are living on a modest retirement, we live simple, we are not fancy folks. We wanted to give this blog  a try. We have a small garden in south Texas, and we live in a mobile home in an over 55 community.

​I have to tell you that one statement gave me something to look forward to, and something I could work towards. It placed that pen back in my hand and gave me the courage to write again. It is not about fame or money, but sharing information, and giving hope to others that they too can start where they are no matter how small. I now have a garden! I look forward to sharing many fresh vegetables with my neighbors.

We hope to share a variety of topics dear to our heart to include gardening, camping, and travel along the way.

We also have a small eBay business called RK Treasure Center that we have had for the last 7 years. Roy has recently started a YouTube channel where he will share his thrift finds.  If you get a chance check it out.

​Our greatest hope is that as we document our adventures together, share our day to day life, inspiring and encouraging others. Our goal in life is to live life honestly, simply, and always be true to ourselves in our beliefs, our circumstances, and how we treat others.
